My Photographer of the week: Duane Michals

I'm quite keen on veering away from my own work for once, and perhaps talking about the work of others. This week I'm going to focus on one of my all time college-project favourites - Duane Michals (wiki link).

Below is probably one of his most well known pieces of work, and certainly one of my favourite examples of his trademark annotation:

The photograph itself is very simple, and certainly doesn't show off the undeniable skill that Michals possesses behind the camera. However, the combination of blissful snapshot and desperate scribble speaks volumes and showcases what makes Michals unique. Though this is not all (his work exploring sexuality and religion also stand out), it sums up everything I like about him.

Other favourites of mine include:

  1. I'm writing a paper on Duane Michals for school. Thanks for posting these. If the paper turns out well I may post it on my site as well. I loved his fashion work for Vogue and the Synchronicity (The Police) album cover!
